That session tune you love – are you sure it’s actually traditional?

trac is twenty years old this year, and to begin our celebrations, we’ve commissioned Jordan Price Williams to curate a video series to teach some of his favourite tunes written over the past twenty years. They’re all by musicians involved in the Welsh folk music tradition, and each video features a different composer. Jordan gives a little background, plays the tune then goes through the fast ones at a slow pace to help you learn the melody.

There’ll be a new video each Friday, starting next week. We love the folk tradition of learning and playing by ear but if dots help you learn then you can download a PDF for each tune from the trac website.

The videos grew out of a Ty Cerdd project Jordan was involved with called Affricerdd. He was to have delivered workshops for trac as part of this, when Covid19 struck. We’re delighted that lockdown has led to a video series which will outlast the original project and, we hope, reach farther and wider.

The project has been made possible through funding from the National Lottery via the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Government.
